Get your FREE eBook at www.academic-art-of-riding.com Welcome to Riding Academy. The topic of this video is Why dressage? Dressage is a mean to improve the horse physically and mentally. The centuries old tradition of classical dressage provides a systematic method of schooling the horse to make him pleasant to ride and to prolong his useful working life. Another facet of dressage is the focus on harmony between horse and rider. And dressage is about beauty and about art. Many dressage movements look like dances, with the horse and rider totally in synchrony with each other. Dressage is also good for the horse; it produces a balanced, supple, strong and athletic horse. Dressage training can also be elevated to physical therapy. The trainer can overcome many natural weaknesses in his horse, especially natural crookedness, by appropriate gymnastic exercises. So dressage is very important for the health of the horse. Dressage is based on the natural movements of the horse. If the trainer wants to have a correct view of the mechanism of the horse’s movements, he must observe the young green horse in the pasture. He’ll discover the activity of the individual limbs and of the coactions of all the limbs during forward movement. He will then be convinced that Mother Nature has endowed the young horse with everything that he has seen in well trained dressage horses. In its games, the young colt will display quite a number of the higher-level movements from a passage to airs above

Bob Does Dressage!

I decided to pull out my old dressage saddle and see if it fit Bob. I thought I would have some fun and it turns out he has REALLY great training! Considering I havent had formal dressage training in years and he has been sitting in a stall for two years, can you imagine what he could be like with some work?! He is so much fun to ride…

Dressage Percheron to Mr. Blue Sky

Of course, it is Mr. Blue Sky, by ELO. Love this song! This was put together from a few practice videos I made of Robert and Katie in the fall of 2008. Katie, the Percheron, is just a blast to ride and the clips shown don’t really do her justice but it was what I had on hand. Katie is very pregnant in this video (very pregnant in some clips) and her impending delivery shows in her quality of work, the more pregnant she became (grin). Wish her luck with her upcoming birth! PS The alternate name of this video is: “Dancing with Puddles to Mr. Blue Sky while Partnered with a Pregnant, One-ton Beautiful Grrrl” Katie had a baby boy “eclipse” on Jan 3, 2009 www.cieloazure.com

The dressage Rider position

www.everyday-rider.com Sheila is a young professional and creator of The everyday rider. This video is about the rider’s position, it covers the many levels to a correct position. “Hi Im Sheila with everyday rider and today were going to talk about the riders position With riding in general there is a training scale; perhaps youve heard of the German riding scale. Rhythm, suppleness, contact, impulsion, straightness must all be obtained in that order to achieve collection in riding. Well the rider should have a scale as well, and without proper foundations the rider cant achieve correct position. It begins from the ground up, deep heels, draping calves, loose knees, strong heavy thighs, absorbing hips, strong core, open chest and shoulders, giving hands and balanced head can create the ideal rider, a collected rider if you will. You cannot build a house on weak foundation, however if the foundation is strong the levels become endless. Here we will venture into the riders position.” **Please note: this is for educational purposes only. I, like every rider, am not perfect and have many of my own flaws. This video is not for criticism, thank you for watching and check out my site! www.everyday-rider.com
